From mid-March to late April 2019, Iran was hit with several waves of massive floods that affected more than two-thirds of the country. Wreaking havoc in 28 of Iran’s 31 provinces, 269 cities and 5,148 villages, the unprecedented floods also took 78 lives, injured 1,137 people and displaced close to 300,000 others.
Direct damages to roads, bridges, homes and farmland were estimated by Iranian authorities at $2.5 billion. After mobilizing limited resources, the country was forced to tap into its sovereign wealth fund.
While months have passed and some of the damage has been repaired, life has yet to be restored to normal for many affected Iranians. Every dollar you contribute will be spent to make life a bit easier for them.
Iran has been hit with several rounds of harsh economic sanctions in the past year as part of a “maximum pressure” campaign by the United States that was implemented after President Donald Trump in May 2018 unilaterally withdrew from Iran’s multilateral nuclear deal with world powers.
Even as humanitarian causes are deemed non-sanctionable under international law, both the Iranian government and the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) have confirmed that the foreign bank accounts of the IRCS have been blocked and are unable to receive financial aid due to U.S. sanctions.
That leaves cryptocurrencies as the only viable option for people around the globe to donate safely – and anonymously should they wish – to Iranian flood victims. All funds will be exchanged into rials in credible local exchanges and transferred transparently to the local IRCS bank account.
IranRescueBit was conceived by a handful of the members of the local cryptocurrency and blockchain community with some support by non-government entities and is run indepedently from the Iranian government.
Without fearing repercussions, this is your chance to set an example and show world leaders that humanity and compassion transcend politics.

For all the theoretical debates raging across the Twittersphere, it’s hard to find concrete evidence that cryptocurrencies are helping the poor and unbanked. Meanwhile, outside the notice of crypto pundits, an independent aid campaign is making practical use of cryptocurrencies to help flood victims in Iran, right now.
Earlier in April 2019, Iran suffered a devastating flood that reportedly killed nearly 100 people, displaced hundreds of thousands and left more than two million people in need of humanitarian aid.
An independent campaign has been launched in Iran in order to attract international aid in cryptocurrency for flood victims in the face of US sanctions which have choked off foreign funds.
Volunteer cryptocurrency developers in Iran have created a blockchain platform called IranRescueBit, which allows people to make charitable cryptocurrency donations to aid regions in the country in recovering from destructive flooding.
A grassroots crowdfunding campaign, dubbed IranRescueBit, is raising bitcoin to bring aid to Iranians impacted by a series of devastating floods, an attempt to bring relief to the country as U.S. sanctions have hindered international aid efforts.
Tehran, Iran - When a massive natural disaster strikes in most countries, the global community takes notice, comes together and sends humanitarian aid, including financial donations.
